Rural Water District Expansion Progresses

By Stu Merry

Work continues on each of the two new Garrison Rural Water District pump station/storage facilities.

Completion of the project was to be this week. Due to delays, officials said it is hoped work can be completed and the facilities fully operational yet this year.

One of the additions to the project is an office, which will be located at the east facility. Concrete was poured Monday. Completion is expected by March.  The current office is at McLean Electric Cooperative.

The facilities are located four miles east of Garrison and two miles west.  Both are along N.D. Highway 37.

Rural water district officials said with rapid growth the need for facilities is long overdue, and by adding the two storage locations, the district will be able to maintain a better volume and pressure to serve patrons.

Once complete, the project will add 75,000 gallons of storage at the east location and 125,000 gallons at the west site. The project also includes about eight miles of line upgrades.  Construction at each location is simultaneous.

The district has struggled with volume issues for some time as the system was originally designed for 225 meters, it is now at 717 and growing.
